These days are devoted to the mission of observing the elusive Jaguars. After long time seriously endangered, due to the trust that they were responsible for the killing of cattle (which is the only economic activity before tourism), the largest cat in Americas have found peace and tranquility for their survival with the creation of the Tayamã Ecological Station. This magnificent place is an island with many other little rivers protected, with fishing forbidden all over the island. Due to the remoteness of the area, Jaguars there are less used to the human beings, so, in spite of being harder to observe them, this is compensated with the pleasure of not having other dozen of boats surrounding you, allowing us to have private sights. The large diversity of aquatic environments has as its only inhabitants the innumerous species of wildlife that include the Giant-river Otters – the ‘wolves of the rivers’ as well as Tapirs and many Capybaras and Caimans. Taking a fast motor boat equipped with radio-communication is the best and most guaranteed way to see Jaguars. The Jaguars could be hidden, just resting on the river banks, or playing on the beaches, or hunting Caimans and Capybaras. For exploring the Tayamã station, we must be during the whole day in the boat ride, carrying our lunch in box and return to the lodge just during the sunset. Or we do shorter boat rides on the smaller rivers and tributaries around the area of the lodge, having lunch there.
After breakfast, we have the whole morning to leave the mountainous region of the Pantanal of Cáceres to visit the very flat Pantanal of Poconé, arriving to the lodge after an overland safari along the Transpantaneira park-road with many stops to observe the first Egrets, Storks, Rheas, Toucans, Capybaras and Caimans of its rich fauna among 700 species of birds, 120 of mammals, 80 of reptiles…Dinner and overnight.
