Take advantage of being at the meeting of World’s largest Rain Forest, Savannah and Wetland to visit them as well. The Amazon is the place for you to see the Harpy Eagle, only 140km far from Cuiabá, but there are also hundreds of birds and mammals a bit further, accessed by land or by air. At the Savannah of Chapada dos Guimarães, you could understand the Pantanal geological formation, delight with the wonderful landscapes, relax on the waterfalls and see lot of different birds, while in Nobres – at the meeting to the Amazon (and its rich fauna) – you interact with nature in amazing snorkeling through crystalline waters.

Pick-up at the CGB airport/hotel and immediate transfer to the traditional town of Poconé, with introduction to the geological formation and flora characteristics, then to the lodge, arriving there after an overland safari along the Transpantaneira park-road with many stops to observe the first Egrets, Storks, Rheas, Toucans, Capybaras and Caimans of its rich fauna among 700 species of birds, 120 of mammals, 80 of reptiles…Overnight.

In the early morning, it is observed the spectacle of the awakening on nature with some walks through the many mound-hills (portion of non-flooded land that concentrate large number of mammals among many birds’ nests. This silent activity allows the observation/ photography of a large number of monkeys, capybaras and other rodents, as well as many birds’ nests (Jabiru storks, Hyacinth Macaw, etc.) and, with luck, the Giant Anteater on the fields or the Tapir in the forests. In the morning, there is a walking on the trails through the mound-hills where there are nests of birds such as Jabiru storks and the Hyacinth Macaw together with primates and rodents such as the Howler or Capuchin Monkeys and the Agouti or Capybaras. In the afternoon is done an overland safari through dense forests, which is the newest Jaguar habitat in the North Pantanal to a beautiful lake at the Bento Gomes river. Bordered by dense forests and large fields, a nesting site can be seen from the top of the canopy tower in the bottom of what is done a brief walking. Return at the dusk using equipment as a flashlight for highlighting nocturnal fauna, with the chance to observe Crab-eating Foxes, Deer, many Caiman’s eyes and, with a bit of luck, Ocelots or Jaguars!

In the early morning is departure for a terrestrial safari along the whole Transpantaneira park-road until its end on the Cuiabá river banks at Porto Jofre, arriving to the lodge for lunch with many stops to observe its rich and most rare fauna. In the afternoon, there is already a boat ride, the first opportunity to observe the elusive Jaguars on their natural habitat, resting on the river banks or playing on the beaches.

Departure in boats equipped with radio-communication for navigating the rivers Cuiabá, Three Brothers and Piquiri, seeking for Jaguars, hunting Caiman or Capybaras or simply resting/ playing on the banks. During the journey can be observed many other species of the rich fauna as the Giant-river Otters, Tapirs among hundreds of birds including the Black-skimmer. 02 Boat rides are available for the whole day in order to maximize the chance to see the largest cat in Americas.

_Option 01_reaching the South Pantanal by charter flights, it would be done in the morning, from Porto Jofre to the chosen (Caiman, Baía de Pedras or any other) lodge, with an approximately flight time around 1h-1h20m;
_ Option 02_taking a regular flight to Campo Grande, we do the departure to the CGB Cuiabá airport with drop-off at the convenient time. Arrival to CGR, transfer to a hotel in town and departure to the South Pantanal in the day after (consider this itinerary as for your 7th day and on);
_ Option 03_doing an adventurous travel by land to the north of the South Pantanal (Baía de Pedras), we recommend two overnights on the way: Jaciara, for doing a rafting or a waterfall bath or Águas Quentes for having an invigorating bath in thermal waters and the town of Rio Verde de Mato Grosso, the starting point to the dirt road. (Consider this itinerary as for your 8th day and on).
_Option for using Baía das Pedras lodge would permit a faster and direct transfer, not needing to drive (or to sleep) to Campo Grande. The itinerary below continues as if for taking this option.
Arrival to the lodge, which is an important research basis of the Giant Armadillos, Tapirs, Jaguars and many other examples of the rich Pantanal diversity. Accommodation and a walking through the mound-hills to observe birds, primates and mammals. Dinner and overnight.

The remote lodge offers a range of activities, including walking, jeep and night safaris, boat rides that will provide us the best chances to see a lot of animals while experiencing the isolation that permitted the Pantanal to be considered an ecological sanctuary that even having lots of enemies (agriculture, gold mine) and resisted to big fires, have ecotourism as the main partner for its conservation

After breakfast, departure for a 8 hours driving 560km on paved road to the Cuiabá city. Two other options are Campo Grande, at only 5h (365km) or Rio Verde, at 4h (290km).

Mato Grosso hosts three different biomes: the Amazon to the North; the Savannah to the Centre and Pantanal to the South. This tour connects these three destinations, having Cuiabá as the entrance gate. In the Amazon, a large concentration of birds among some mammals, with highlight to the Harpy Eagle and Hoatzins. In the Pantanal, 700 species of birds among 120 of mammals, 80 of reptiles, 240 of fishes and in the Savannah, the bird watching is done while visiting (and having bath) valleys in stunning waterfalls or panoramic views.

A minimum of 6 nights is recommended to do this tour with a flight to Alta Floresta if at Cristalino lodge.

Arrival to the Cuiabá airport and immediate connection to a regional flight to the town of Alta Floresta, arriving there after 1:30h. Reception at the airport and, after a welcoming drink at the urban hotel, transfer by jeeps and boats to the Cristalino park. Arrival, accommodation and dinner. A slide-show is presented as an introduction to the Amazonian environment. Opportunity to browse the library.

In the morning, hike towards the 50 meter Canopy Tower where you will be able to see the forest from above the canopy. Monkeys, macaws and several species of birds can be found here. Then, walk the Ficus Trail, where a giant Ficus Tree is found. In the afternoon, walk the Taboca Trail in an area with seasonally flooded forest, where many monkeys can be found.

 

Walk to the Tree house – a 6 m high hide overlooking a natural clay lick that is regularly visited by tapirs, peccaries and deer. Motor boat ride up river to hike the ‘Sierra’ trail, a great view of the private reserve and the Cristalino Park including a marvelous sunset. Return to lodge by motorboat turned off observing nocturnal birds and animals by river.

 

In the morning, hike towards the Saleiro House – a rustic tree house located in the middle of the forest reserve. The soil here is naturally rich in minerals, and is often visited by large forest mammals such as the South american Tapir (Tapirus terrestris), Collared Peccary (Pecari tajacu), White-lipped Peccary (Tayassu pecari), the Giant Anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) and the Southern Tamandua (Tamandua tetradactyla). By the afternoon, boat trip up river and hike the remarkable Brazil Nut Trail in a region with enormous Brazil Nut Trees. On the way back it is possible to canoe or boat ride, watching the afternoon as you go down river.

Light hike in the Tapiri Trail, where the White-whiskered-spider-monkey (Atelis marginatus), symbol of Cristalino State Park, can be seen. Transfer to Alta Floresta for lunch and transfer to the airport for the flight to Cuiabá.

The lung of the Planet, Amazon is a source of fascination for any nature lover around the World. There are many gates for visiting it, in the many countries that are covered by the Worlds’ largest Rain Forest and in Brazil, the most famous is Manaus, where is predominant the low lands – the kingdom of the water! In Mato Grosso State, at higher topographies and with influence of the Cerrado and Pantanal, mosaics of vegetation justifies the reputation of our destinations to have the largest variety of birds.

Pick-up at the CGB airport/ hotel and immediate transfer to the Chapada Tablelands, climbing 500m throughout the cliffs of the Brazilian Central Plateau in only 67 km for observing a gorgeous sunset into a large panorama that includes the water spring of three very important rivers that form the Pantanal. Then, on to the pleasant town of Chapada dos Guimarães for dinner and overnight

Brief visits to the National Park, with bath in one waterfall and visit to the largest one – Véu de Noiva with it 86 m entering a majestic canyon. Transfer to the village of Bom Jardim, at 150 km away passing by beautiful rock formations, by the river Manso, with its hydroelectric plant and lake and by the large Cuiabá river near to its beginning. Lunch and departure to do snorkeling in a water spring, so clear and with a blue color together with the colorful fishes; then, on the Salobra river, in an extension of 400m, where is observed rich aquatic fauna & flora. Visit to the Macaws’ lake, a water spring surrounded by many palm trees where they roost since the sunset.

The Cerrado Savannah covers the Brazilian Central Plateau and is one of the main watershed that feeds the most important river basins in Brazil (Amazon, Silver, Araguaia and San Francisco). Chapada dos Guimarães, at only 70km far from Cuiabá is a pleasant town surrounded by outstanding scenarios with gorgeous waterfalls and panoramic views where is possible to see an amazing variety of birds. Nobres offers crystalline waters for snorkeling and, on the transition to the Amazon, is also a good destination for bird-watching.

A minimum of 2 nights if at the transition to the Savannah, 3 nights at the transition to the Pantanal or 4 nights if at the Cristalino river area
